Dangerous Substances Legislation

With effect 1 July 2009 the Dangerous Substances Legislation applies but organisations e.g. UTAS, have three months to make a declaration to Workplace Standards Tasmania (WST) concerning the classes and quantities held on each campus.
AMS and OH&S are working on the declarations and a Policy but the Policy may be as general as " the minimum standard is the following legislation with does apply 1 July 2009". The legislation includes Codes of Practice which in effect provides the procedures. Below are the relevant Australian Standards and Code of Practice as these will apply as part of any UTAS policy. Also provided is a WST summary of the legislation that was attended by UTAS employees.  At the request of the UTAS OH&S Committee, Legal & Governance have already provided written legal advice that UTAS at all levels, have the responsibility to comply with the legislation.
