Radiation Safety Committee
The Radiation Safety Committee is a sub-committee of the OH&S
Committee.

To provide advice and information on sources of potentially
harmful radiation to the Occupational Health and Safety Committee
and employees who deal with radiation.

To review and provide recommendations to the Department of
Health and Human Services (Director of Public Health) regarding
the University of Tasmania's Radiation Site Licence application
and variations.

To develop policies and procedures relating to radiation which
will provide a framework for employees to work safely with sources
of potentially harmful radiation and ensure these are consistent
with legislative requirements.

To review monitoring programs for potentially harmful radiation.

To investigate and evaluate any incidents involving sources
of potentially harmful radiation matters.

The RAC Chair is authorised to require a School/Section to
immediately cease any activity dealing with radiation if there
is a belief that the activity poses an unnecessary risk to employees.
Such matters would be the subject of a special meeting of RAC
and may be referred to the Director of Public Health.
Tenure and frequency of meetings is not specified. The Committee
meets as required.
