Awards for Exceptional Performance by General Staff
The Vice-Chancellor offers up to three annual awards in recognition of exceptional performance by members of general staff. An award may be offered to an individual or may be shared by a team or by members of a team. The awards will be presented by the Vice-Chancellor and include a $5,000 payment in respect to individual awards and a $10,000 payment in respect to team awards, to be used for professional development purposes. Eligibility All members of the general staff of faculties or divisions, on all campuses, including trades and service staff, on continuing or fixed-term appointments, employed by the University for at least three years, are eligible for nomination. Criteria Awards will be made for an outstanding contribution, which exceeds the normal requirements of the nominee’s or nominees' substantive position, in meeting the university mission and objectives on the basis of one or more of the following criteria:
Nominations Self-nomination is disallowed. Nominations must be made by the head of the work unit (i.e. school, section, sub-section or team) or a colleague outside the work unit of the nominee(s). Documentation making a case for a nomination should include:
Total documentation in addition to the cover sheet must not exceed six (6) pages. Selection Committee The nominations will be evaluated by a committee chaired by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) & Provost and comprising some members of the Planning & Resources Committee. The Committee will not include any persons that have nominated an individual or a team for the Award. Process Nominations are submitted to the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) & Provost each year. Staff will be notified each year in advance of when nominations are due. The selection committee will make recommendations to the Vice-Chancellor, who will present the awards. A copy of the letter of announcement will be forwarded to Human Resources for filing on the personal file.
