Faculty or Division based Awards/Grants for General Staff

Awards or grants are to be granted to general staff members to develop proposals relating to improvements in services and systems targeted at the University’s mission and outcomes.

The amount of the grant is to be approximately $1,500 to cover, for example, an interstate visit for enhancing the proposal, together with some relief from normal duties for perhaps up to a week.

For proposals which span faculties and/or divisions, applications should be made collaboratively through the Faculty or Division with functional and/or financial responsibility for the proposal.

Eligibility

Members of the general staff within faculties or divisions, on all campuses, including trades and service staff, on continuing or fixed term appointments, employed by the University for at least two years, are eligible to apply for grants within their own faculty or division.

Criteria and Applications

Grants will be awarded according to criteria established in the Faculty or Division at the time that applications are called and in relation to improvements in services and systems targeted in the University’s mission and outcomes.

Generally such applications, of up to three pages, should include:

• a brief summary of the proposal specifying the targetted University mission outcome

• proposed benefits to the School or Faculty, or Unit, Section or Division

• anticipated budget for developing and implementing the improvement

• proposed timetable for development and implementation

• proposed site(s) to be visited and rationale, if granted the award

• recommendation of support by Head of School or Unit

Process

The call for applications will be made by the relevant Dean or Head of Division for project development in the following year. Proposals to be selected, announced, and presented by the relevant Dean or Head of Division, usually by 15 December. The relevant Faculty or Division will fund the grant from their staff development allocation and a summary report of outcomes will be submitted in their Annual Report. A copy of the letter of announcement will be forwarded to Human Resources for filing on the personal file. Should a staff member wish to submit a proposal at any other time of the year, a Dean or Head of Division may accept and fund such an application.
