In accordance with the relevant Enterprise Agreement or other industrial instrument, eligible staff may apply to receive a
salary lower than that to which they are otherwise entitled, in exchange for University payment of the item(s) outlined in the Agreement or industrial instrument..
In such cases the amount of reduction in salary payable will be
equal to the University payment, together with any tax payable upon
such payment being made by the University to the benefit of the
employee.
Salary sacrifice
arrangements are currently available in respect of the following:
Information in relation to the salary packaging of a leased vehicle is available from the following website.
Laptop computers may be salary sacrificed where the use of the laptop computer is primarily for use in the employee’s employment. Please take a few minutes to read the details of the UTAS arrangement contained within the following information sheet.
Prior to purchasing a laptop, the Approval for the Salary Sacrifice of a Laptop Computer form must be completed and signed by your Head of Budget Centre. The details of your application will be assessed by the University. If it is agreed that based on the information provided, it is reasonable to conclude that the laptop is to be used primarily for use in your employment at UTAS, you will be advised that a sacrifice arrangement has been agreed and you will be provided with a Salary Sacrifice/Reimbursement form which can be used once you have purchased the laptop computer.
If you have any questions in relation to laptop salary sacrifice please call Stephen Mace on ext. 3053 or Kylie Burke on ext. 3415.

Staff may opt to have their employee superannuation contribution
(7 per cent of salary) to UniSuper's Defined Benefit Plan or Investment
Choice Plan (both formerly SSAU) paid by the University as an employer
superannuation contribution. In such cases, the employees
salary will be reduced by the amount necessary to pay both the superannuation
contribution and the 15 per cent tax payable by the University upon
making the payment as an employer superannuation contribution. For
more details refer to the form
[PDF].
Voluntary pre-tax contributions can also be made under salary sacrifice
arrangements. For more details refer to the UTAS form
[PDF] and the UniSuper form
[PDF]. Note: Both forms must be completed when electing to make voluntary pre-tax contributions.
Leave Payouts
It is not possible to receive a lump sum leave pay-out in the form of an employer superannuation contribution as opposed to receiving it as PAYG salary. (Current taxation legislation does not allow salary sacrifice of entitlements already accrued, however, the legislation does allow salary sacrifice of entitlements yet to be accrued.) However, it is possible to receive a lump sum leave payment as PAYG salary on the one hand, and salary sacrifice an equivalent amount of normal salary into superannuation on a prospective basis on the other hand. Information in relation to this option is available here.
University staff parking fees. For more details refer to the
form [PDF] which is
available from the Asset Management website.
Membership fees for the University's Sport and Recreation Centres.
